Use European fund to secure future of Scottish fishing

Commenting as the Scottish Government urges the fishing industry to bid for support from the European Fisheries Fund, Liberal Democrat Fisheries spokesperson Liam McArthur MSP said:
"These funds have, for a number of years, provided invaluable support to help many fishing businesses in the catching and shoreside sectors to modernise. In turn, the funds have helped fishermen deliver an ever improving quality of product to the consumer.
"The fishing, processing and aquaculture sectors face real challenges, not least from high fuel costs. That's why it's so important that those in the industry bid for a share of this money, and that it is used effectively to safeguard the future of Scottish businesses, many of which are crucial to sustaining the communities in which they are based."
