Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Tavish Scott today met senior Lloyds TSB executive Archie Kane to discuss the proposed merger of Lloyds TSB with HBOS. This was one of a series of meetings with political leaders that Mr Kane is holding today.
After what he described as "a highly productive meeting", Tavish Scott said:
"It is clear that Lloyds recognise the importance of financial services to Scotland's DNA. It is our job as politicians to work across parties and across business to turn that into results.
"Working together offers us the best chance of securing all that can be secured for the bank staff, their customers and the prospect of head office functions being based in Scotland.
"I am, however, concerned for the future of the local branch network that the newly merged bank will inherit and also the impact of the merger on individual account holders and small businesses across the country. Less competition on the high street will remain a worry."
